A Letter From the Founder Kancho Cameron Shayne

Becoming a Budokon sensei is a great honor and privilege not because the art is special but rather that the people who have dedicated their lives to spreading this healing art are so very special.

We simply attract only the finest in character, ethics and heart. Our body of teachers are to put it simply, extraordinary people. We attract people who have a desire to positively effect the lives of others and the earth. We do not turn people away for lacking experience in any of the arts that we teach, but rather embrace those who have a strong desire to learn, grow and share their knowledge with others.

If you connect with these ideals and are looking for a family of like minded individuals who are committed to personal mastery, excellence and freedom from suffering you have found a home with Budokon International. We believe that we are responsible for leaving our friends, families and environments better than we found them. I look forward to a lifetime of play, practice and friendship.

With love and respect,
Creator & Founder
Kancho Cameron Shayne.

Career Opportunities

Our top quality, specialized professional teacher training program is unique in the fitness field because it is focused on not only changing peoples bodies, but changing their minds and the way they live. This purpose only places Budokon in the category of an art and a way of life, giving it eternal longevity, unlike the many fitness fads that will come and go.

Upon completion of the teachers training program you will receive a certificate from Budokon International which you can proudly display as a symbol of your knowledge and experience.

Our curriculum will teach you to effectively conduct public classes as well as personal training. The pace, structure and compassion with which you learn to teach will allow for long-term relationships with all your clients. By creating a highly supportive and safe space, your clients will get physically healthier and in time, transform their entire lives. With your guidance, they become physically and mentally stronger, up-grade their diets, clean up relationship issues, re-examine their beliefs and become present to the moment. They will come back for more because it is a learning process that is never ending. There is anyways another level with which to take the practice.

As a student you are trained in all aspects of being a fitness and lifestyles guide. We discuss in depth how to access each client, even in a group atmosphere, how to progress your classes, how to give adjustments, and what modifications to give in different situations.

When the way one moves changes by becoming more precise and aware, everything changes. Their thoughts will become more organized and clear. In turn, their reality will reflect their new clarity and presence of mind.

How Our Professional Teacher Training Program Works

Blue Belt Certificate

The Budokon PTT program welcomes anyone at any fitness level or movement background who is interested in teaching the Budokon System. The PTT will begin learning the white belt curriculum and continue through the ranks until ideally the black belt is achieved. Each belt after red belt takes approximately 1 year to achieve. Each belt exam is personally conducted by Kancho Cameron Shayne. The red belt is the first curriculum that must be perfected. This program is designed for conditioning the body and preparing the mind for the more complex curriculums to follow. Once the PTT achieves red belt they are certified to teach that curriculum publicly and privately.

You have 2 ways to participate:

  1. The PTT may study directly under a Certified Budokon Sensei of Blue Belt rank or higher in their area. The PTT would work directly with their local teacher until the time that it is determined that they are prepared to test for their belt. At this time they are required to test directly with Kancho Shayne.
  2. The PTT may attend each phase required for their belt curriculum directly with Kancho Shayne. This would require some traveling on the part of the student as Kancho Shayne teaches all over the US. The PTT may also choose to divide their training time between a local teacher and Kancho Shayne to obtain belts.

How do I get started?

To begin your immersion training, simply contact our Director of Student Enrollment, Nathan Mills at nathan.mills@budokon.com. Sensei Mills will help guide you by connecting you with your nearest teacher and enrolling you in the program. You will pay an initial yearly organization fee of $50 that includes your name on our website, 30% discount on all Budokon performance products, and free year round workshops with Kancho Shayne for continuing education.

Commonly Asked Questions

What Exactly Will I Be Studying?

You will basically be studying a combination of yogic, martial and mind sciences. A complete description of the curriculum is laid out later in this brochure.

Why is Budokon a Belt System?

We use belts much like a college uses the terms freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior. Each of our belts is divided into a unique and specific body of study which builds seamlessly upon the former body. This provides the student a clear and organized curriculum which is signified by the color of the belt that represents said curriculum.

Why Do We Wear These Belts?

Our colored belts represent a level of proficiency in a particular curriculum with in our program. This allows students inside and outside the system to recognize which Budokon Senseis are qualified to teach and answer questions regarding specific curriculum material.

What Does Sensei Mean?

Sensei is a Japanese term that translates directly as teacher. All of our students are considered sensei. Note: Only Budokon Senseis who have graduated the professional TT program are qualified to publicaly/privately teach Budokon to generate income.

What Does the Budokon Symbol

Mean?

The Tomoe is a traditional Japanese family crest. The symbol is believed to represent the 3 elements of creation; heavens, earth and man all in constant rotation together. Kancho Cameron Shayne found the tomoe symbol in a Japanese book in 1994 at which time he had the symbol tattooed upon his right shoulder. In 2004, ten years later it became the official symbol for the Budokon International Organization.

How Do I Earn an Income With My Certification?

As a red belt you have several options regarding generating income. We have found that the most successful revenue stream comes from teaching private lessons, followed by public classes. We also encourage our teachers to create their own Budokon Academies in their local communities. When a teacher has achieved the rank of blue belt the teacher is qualified to run teacher training phases for the red belt curriculum.

What if I Don't Have Experience in Yoga or Martial Arts?

We do not turn away students based on movement experience. Each teacher enters the program on equal ground. If a teacher requires more training based on a lack of experience or physical skill they will simply be required to practice the curriculum until they have reached a level of professional teacher proficiency. This will not cost the PTT more than the cost of their curriculum fee.

Understanding the Belt System

Our belt system consists of 5 belts not including white. Each belt reflects a different curriculum and body of work. Each belt takes approximately 1 year to achieve proficiency. Each Belt builds upon the knowledge and technique of the previous belt until black belt is achieved. The student will study in groups, alone and during official TTs. Budokon practitioners must be self motivated individuals who are willing to take initiative in order to achieve a black belt.

The Movement Science Curriculum

Budokon Symbol

Words represent your intellect. Movement represents your feelings. Together we become fully expressed
- Cameron Shayne

Yogic Arts Education

The Science of Anatomy & Autonomy

Cameron Shayne Photo

Our Philosophy
For centuries the yogic arts have been pioneering the science of mind, body and breath connection. The fruits of yogic asana are freedom, truth, spaciousness and an honest relationship with ones self. By turning our gaze inward we recognize that our body stores both our physical and emotional experiences in the tissue and nervous system. Budokon utilizes this amazing technology to both heal and educate the student in regards to their personal anatomy and trapped emotional energy. Incorporating yogic science Budokon heals through the integration and harmonization of all life support systems.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Range of Motion
Without freedom and range of movement we limit our ability to be fully expressed both physically and emotionally. Budokon draws from yogic asana science in order to create freedom and spaciousness that lasts for a lifetime.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Architectural Alignment
All movement depends upon the laws of structural science. Budokon utilizes yogic static posture to work with skeletal and muscular architecture in order to heal injury, strengthen joints and build life long functional strength.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Structural Stability
Budokon uses hatha yoga postures to cultivate the bodies ability to efficiently and effortlessly bear weight. When the body is aligned correctly according to individual anatomy it has the ability to execute natural feats of incredible strength and power.

Budokon Original Technology

The Science of Connectivity and Stability

Cameron Shayne Photo

Our Philosophy
We believe that all movement arts posses a unique quality that clearly identifies them as individual bodies of work. We also believe that when any movement art is integrated and organized properly they can forge themselves into a more complete system of movement that captures the individual spirit of each art. The Budokon System has successfully yoked theory and technology from numerous bodies of work including the martial & yogic arts, Alexander & Feldenkrais Method, and modern dance to give the practitioner a body of work that cultivates the bodies full range of motion. Our first objective and obligation is to cultivate connection and stabilization in the student so that they may have a foundation to stack more advanced technology.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Contra-Lateral Movement
Though humans crawl and walk with a contra-lateral gate we tend to gravitate towards exercises that encourages very little exploration of the very foundation of our locomotion. The Budokon System believes that our original movement is key to unlocking our potential.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Stability Training
We have the very best techniques in stability training. Our students are taught a combination of yogic and martial inspired techniques that cultivate extreme connectivity during transition and static position.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Spinal Roll & Shoulder Girdle Activation
Learning to roll energy through the spine using kinetic energy chains is the objective of this groundbreaking work. The student learns at the same time to push with the entire shoulder girdle creating the strength to support the entire body.

Martial Arts Education

The Science of Coordination & Cooperation

Cameron Shayne Photo

Our Philosophy
At Budokon International we believe that the human species was engaged in conflict long before we were engaging in the practice of conflict resolution. Budokon therefore recognizes the necessity of cultivating communication and conflict resolution skills in our practitioners as we are genetically predisposed to experiencing feelings of fight or flight. We believe that leadership requires a great understanding of peace making through practical application. Through years of study by Budokons founder and scientific data it is clear that the martial arts develops incredible biomechanics, critical thinking, mental agility and coordination.

Where the yogic arts lack partner exercises, timing, rhythm, control and precision, martial arts fills in the gaps perfectly. Martial arts gives people a since of peace and a feeling of having powerful choices in a world that is often unpredictable.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Biomechanic Literacy
The Budokon System invests heavily into the education of our practitioners understanding of body mechanics. We believe that we are born with natural locomotive skills that are quickly covered up by habitual limited range movement cycles. Therefore our approach to movement is unlearning and uncovering natural biomechanics.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Striking, Throwing & Submission
Martial arts technology is vast. Therefore we have divided our curriculum into the 3 categories: striking, throwing and grappling. WIth in these three very diverse sciences we learn to cultivate them individually while transitioning through them as thought they were one unified theory. Our objective is produce well rounded martial artists.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Kinetic Energy Chains
Science is the source of all Budokon technology. We do not work from tradition or dogma. When it comes to movement we understand that speed and power are a result of effortless and uninterrupted chains of energy moving through the body. We teach our practitioners to first develop connectivity followed by.

Animal Locomotion Education

The science and the evolution of movement

Cameron Shayne Photo

Our Philosophy
At Budokon International we recognize that we are a very unique species of animal with in a large and diverse biosphere of plants, animals and organic elements that make up the planet earth. We are committed to better relating to our natural environment through the exploration of animal movement. This work is considered our most revolutionary work as it takes the student out of all realms of comfort and familiarity to break through habitual physical and emotional movement patterns. Once the student is placed in this foreign movement environment true learning begins without interruption from the minds desire to categorize the experience.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Plyometric Rotation
Once we grow up we rarely leave the ground much less rotate while in the air. The Budokon animal locomotion training focuses heavily on body stability while transitioning through space. This training cultivates excellent timing and body organization.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Quadruped Locomotion
We were once four legged creatures able to move with great speed and agility. As we have transitioned to biped creatures our arms have lost their capacity to bear the weight of the body. Our animal movement work cultivates incredible biomechanics and trunk connectivity.

Cameron Shayne Photo

Leaping for Agility
Plyometric exercises are specialized, high intensity training techniques used to develop athletic power (strength and speed). Plyometric training involves high-intensity, explosive muscular contractions that invoke the stretch reflex (stretching the muscle before it contracts so that it contracts with greater force).

Mind Sciences

Budokon Symbol

The Curriculum

All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man's life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom.
- Albert Einstein

Our Mind Science Program

The mind is the brains job.

At Budokon International we believe that good psychology is the foundation for true healing and wellness. In our program you uncover the mysteries of brain development in order to better understand why we do what we do. Once we understand our mental process only then can we move towards healing destructive patterns, old belief systems and reactive behavior.

We recognize that true freedom begins with the minds perception of its choices and its process. We must first learn to recognize not only what we are thinking but how we are thinking it. The objective of this work is to create emotionally healthy people who can enjoy and sustain healthy relationships with themselves and with others.

Our Nutrtion Program

If you cannot control what goes in your mouth, you can not control what comes out of your mouth.
- Gandhi

Teaching our students how to eat is as important as teaching them how to move. Proper diet and food preparation are a science. Our staff of highly trained macro-biotic and raw food chefs have assembled a curriculum that guarantees a successful education in the areas of diet and nutrition. You will learn what foods reflect your individual lifestyle and goals. You will learn to eat for a lifetime of health and wellness as well as gain an education in nutrition that will add to your value as a teacher, parent or partner. Learning to prepare healthy foods is another proactive way we learn to heal ourselves and those around us.

Our Environmental Education Program

We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.
- Aldo Leopold

At Budokon International we believe that environmental literacy is at the for front of our mission to effect great change on the planet earth. We are committed to educating our students in the areas of environmental responsibility and sustainability through practical solutions and information. We must learn to use our natural resources responsibly or we will tip the very fragile balance that exists between ourselves and the natural environment that we so closely depend upon.
