THE BECOMING UNCIVILIZED RETREAT DESCRIPTION
RE-ENVISIONING RELATIONSHIPS, SEXUALITY & COMMUNITY THROUGH BODY AND MIND
WITH CHRISTOPHER RYAN & ANYA KAATS AND CAMERON & MELAYNE SHAYNE
Join this unique ensemble with Christopher Ryan PhD, author of Sex and Dawn and Civilized to Death and host of the Tangentially Speaking podcast, Anya Kaats, writer & podcast host, Cameron Shayne, Founder of Budokon University and legendary martial arts and mixed movement teacher, and Melayne Shayne, Director of Budokon University, Movement Artist & Founder of the Women’s Mentorship Program The Wolf Pack, for six unforgettable days of their BECOMING UNCIVILIZED RETREAT.
During our Becoming Uncivilized Retreat you will enjoy thought-provoking conversations, community, delicious food, and a variety of movement practices including Martial Arts, Budokon Yoga, Mobility, Somatic Psychology, and Dance. Retreat attendees will be guided in an exploration of topics including unconventional relationship structures and dynamics, sexuality, self-expression, authentic communication, decivilization, and tribal living.
Each day will dive deep into controversial concepts and explore various movement practices to learn how social and cultural constructs shape our lives and our bodies. Each day will include group discussions as well as embodiment practices such as free-form movement, dance, Budokon Yoga and Mobility, martial arts, sound healing and body work – all designed to break through limiting beliefs and cognitive patterns that keep us from living a fully self-expressed life. Attendees will acquire intra- and interpersonal communication tools to reach new levels of mental, emotional and physical clarity for a more honest, fulfilling life.

THE MONTANA RETREAT LIFE
We are looking forward to welcome you in our home and open our doors to you at Budokon Montana! You will join our home as a tribe member - we train, study, cook, eat, clean, play and live together.
The selected group of maximum 25 participants total and our Budokon team on site allow for an intimate setting and ultimate space for in depth training, transformation, growth and connection.
We have an open wifi network for our students to us. Remember that we live in a remote rural area and that the wifi speed behaves accordingly. This retreat is a great opportunity for some digital detox as well.
HOW WE LIVE & EAT
ACCOMMODATION
Our cosy student’s guest cottage offers housing for 10 students in 3 separate bedrooms with spacious bunk beds and 2 bathrooms as well as a fully equipped kitchen, lounge area, outdoor showers and green house. Our four bohemian canvas tents comfortably sleep 2-4 adventurous glampers each. They are beautifully decorated and equipped with foam mattresses and cozy bedding. Our room booking works on a first come first serve basis. You can inquire about availabilities with Davonne at info@budokon.com.
Our main house offers 2 - 4 additional students selective privacy in our two private / double guest rooms (shared bathroom) upon request and additional charge of $600 per week per room.
Washer and dryer are available for laundry.
THE TRAINING FACILITY
Our entire 5 acre property is a playground and training facility we invite you to use as much as you can during your stay with us. From our outdoor dojo and calisthenics bars, the tiger-wood deck and front yard with mountain view, ape-swings in our forest, Japanese zen and rock garden, to our indoor dojo offer a diversity of opportunities to explore and experience the Budokon curricula.
NUTRITION
Our family-style delicious and nurturing brunch and dinners are prepared by our very own Melayne Shayne & her team from fresh produce from our garden and farmers close by. We offer a mixture of plant based meals and locally sourced animal protein and aim for as much organic offering as possible. A small breakfast assortment in the morning as well as coffee, tea and water are available throughout the day to nourish you.
PERSONAL DIET & WANTS
Make sure to communicate any severe food allergies you might have at least 2 weeks PRIOR to your event.
Please understand that we can not accommodate all kinds of personal preferences and diets as we are cooking for the entire group and not individuals. We will have plant-based options for non-animal protein eaters.
MATCHA & COFFEE PLAN
We offer occasional matcha rituals as part of the experience and with support of our friends from @matchakari. If you would like to bring your own stash if you enjoy a daily matcha use code MELAYNE15 on www.matcha.com to order yours!

THE ENNEAGRAM PERSONALITY TEST
Melayne and Cameron continuously explore and enhance our program to guarantee a rich learning experience and to create opportunities for self-development work as part of your Budokon experience.
Melayne is a InnerCompass Coach and incorporates the Assessment & Personality Profile System as an integrated personal development tool for you during your studies. Several of our students, partners, team members, friends and family have taken the assessment and we have already seen the benefits of the use of the InnerCompass results:
Here are some key highlights we have found with the tool:
* It helps you understand your unconscious motivations and drives
* It offers an exclusive and unique understanding of how you live and show up in life across ALL 9 Personality Types
* You will be able to identify with clarity of heart and mind your patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving
* If offers an opportunity to understand the relationship between movement and how your patterns are stored in the body
* With courage, curiosity, and grace have a method to explore and integrate life more fully
Please email melayne@budokon.com if you are interested in taking the test prior to coming to Montana. Once you have completed the test you will receive a 3-4 pages result report via email. You will be asked to write your personal reflections on it. While in Montana Melayne will introduce the Enneagram Tool during Mind Science. Schedule your individual reading and coaching to understand your results and how to integrate the insights into your life.
FAQ
I STILL HAVE A JOB AND RESPONSIBILITIES BACK HOME - CAN I MAKE CALLS AND IS THERE WIFI ON SITE?
Yes, we have an open wifi network for our students to use at the guest house. Remember that we live in a remote rural area and that the wifi speed behaves accordingly. Make sure to schedule necessary appointments so it does not conflict with the training hours. Mornings before training, during the brunch break or at night after training would be the best time frames for that. Always check in and confirm timings with Melayne prior booking anything. There is no cellular service, however you can enable wifi-calling.
WHAT ABOUT PERSONAL CARE?
Making conscious choices in all aspects of our lives is key to us. We exclusively use natural solutions derived from plants and ask you to be considerate of our way of life and join the mission for a greener more conscious planet! Make sure that the toiletries you bring reflect our mission! We also provide body wash and shampoo.
COMMUNAL LIVING = TEAM WORK
You will join this experience as a tribe member - we train, study, cook, eat, clean, play and sleep together. Community, team work and contribution are an essential part of your experience at Budokon Montana.
